The creators of NATURE ONE and MAYDAY are turning up the bass: on September 9 (8 pm - 6 am) visitors to the Maimarkthalle can look forward to a completely new festival concept that does not yet exist in Germany. BassRepublic focuses on musical styles that are otherwise more of an accessory of larger electro festivals in this country: Bass music, drum'n'bass, trap, dubstep and future bass.

"What 30 years ago with breakbeats. Jungle and Drum'n'Bass began, now splits into various subgenres," explains Oliver Vordemvenne from the organizer I-Motion. "And even if it sometimes sounds like this to untrained ears - this music is anything but a bass-heavy homogenous mush. Typical, however, are very fast and asynchronous rhythms with up to 180 bpm."
Why Mannheim? "Mannheim was already a stronghold of breakbeats in the 90s," says Vordemvenne. "This is where Milk! came into being - the first club in Germany to specialize in breakbeats and later drum'n'bass. The Mannheim scene reached Frankfurt and they celebrated together in the clubs in the southwest. The parties were legendary," he remembers and adds: "With BassRepublic we bring tradition back to the region. The Mannheim drum'n'bass pioneer "Bassface Sascha", former resident DJ at Milk! will also be there on 29.09. - that closes the circle".
The LineUp is representative for the scene, which no longer exists only in the underground: Young and fresh artists like Ghastly from the USA are currently pushing the genre boundaries and attracting new fans. Acts like Chase & Status are superstars who play at festivals like Coachella or Lollapalooza. With three number one hits in the UK dance charts and more than 1 million followers in the social media, the British are among the most successful artists on the scene. DJ Hype from London, who has been shaping the international drum'n'bass scene since its beginnings in the 1980s, is also on board.
But there are also German acts on BassRepublic's decks: ESKEI83, 8-time Red Bull DJ battle winner from Dresden or the DJs Flobu and Sekula - known from the "Bootshaus" in Cologne.
The organizers expect up to 5,000 visitors. A cooperation with VRN (Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar) ensures free and safe arrival and departure.
