Lollapalooza Argentina 2018 - Two days of electronic music and one of electric storm

For the first time, Lollapalooza Argentina was not successful in my opinion. This year was going to be the first time of Lollapalooza's three day festival in each country of South America, Brasil, Chile and Argentina. Sadly in the last mentioned country the terrible weather force it's organizers to cancel the third day.

Even though we miss the last day, we experienced thrilling shows in the enormous and top-level stages that characterize this fest. DJ Snake, What So Not, Hardwell, Nghtmre, Alison Wonderland, Louis The Child and Shiba San had the opportunity to play and we will review their performances.

Resume

Lollapalooza is the biggest and most massive festival of Argentina. It lasts three days and gathers more than 100.000 people per day and brings 100 bands that play in 5 different stages. Unfortunately, as I wrote it only lasted two days this year, and lots of artists missed the opportunity to show themselves.

Perry´s stage is the electronic exclusive stage where all of the DJ´s excepting Hardwell played. It had an innovative style and its magnitude was bigger and wider than last year. Electronic music is growing faster every year in Argentina and this festival is an important promoter of it.

Location

This was the fifth consecutive year that the festival held in the "Hipodromo de San Isidro" a spacious hippodrome that easily accommodates all the audience. Its fresh grass distinguishes for being a comfortable field to rest and dance, but this time the Sunday morning heavy rains flood the field, and the place wasn´t in conditions to receive the people.

Organization

In general, this year organization didn´t meet the expectations. The festival access was fluent, but the exit wasn´t and people waited more than 40 minutes to leave the parking space in their cars. The gastronomy was diverse, they include spots like "Green Spirit" with vegetarian and vegan food, the "Street Food Argentina" to taste some autochtonous flavors, and "The Food Trucks Camp" that included a wide variety of gastronomic proposals. The diversity of food is one of the advantages that differentiated this festival from others.

One thing that surprised me was that on Saturday night, at 8 pm, the beverages spot had already sold out all the water bottles and only had coke to sell. That was a really bad logistic work from the organizers.

Finally, the most important thing to mention was the inability of the festival producers to overcome the storm and make Lollapalooza last day happen. The bad weather was predicted more than a week before and they didn´t think an effective plan to resolve this inconvenient. They also changed the schedule moving forward every show on Saturday. Instead of finishing at 1 am the festival ended at 10 pm and the storm didn´t appear until 5 am. This change prejudiced artists shows that were canceled and a part of the audience that wasn´t able to be on time to assist some concerts.

Lollapalooza´s authorities words announcing the cancellation of the last day: "Due to severe overnight weather containing heavy storms, lightning, and winds that are expected to continue, it has been decided in compliance with governmental authorities instructions to cancel the third day of Lollapalooza Argentina."

Artists

Friday

Shiba San 6:15 to 7:15.

This Parisian DJ play his peculiar music that is influenced by the Chicago House and hip-hop sounds. His personal tones woke the youth putting them to dance in a new way. Shiba offered dark and dynamic songs lead by deep basses and robust masculine voices. The audience and I really appreciate his set, but one hour was to short for him to show all his weapons.

What So Not 7:30 to 8:45.

The craziness of the Australian producer landed with his explosive hits and an amazing show of images and lights. He presented for the first time his last album "Not All The Beautiful Things" that was released this 9th of March. The DJ also played his most popular songs like "High You Are", "Gemini" and "Feel It". The audience was really excited with What So Not songs and they even make a big circle to jump altogether in the famous ones. His set was really energetic and counted with precise up and dows, an accurate mix of relaxing and violent moments. Post-dubstep with experimental sounds and unstable beats in his diversified first show in the country.

Alison Wonderland 9:00 to 10:15 hs

Alison built obscure atmospheres with sharp and profound sounds in the show. Her electronic music relies on future beats, trap, and dancehall that distinguish for its special tones and transitions. The female voices that escort most of the songs made us move incessantly. It was another distinctive proposal for Perry´s stage that attracted a huge amount of people.

Hardwell 11:45 to 1:00 hs

The most demanded DJ of the night closed Lollapalooza's first day at the Main Stage 2 with a mix of uplifting famous songs. He included Daft Punk, Steve Aoki, Camila Cabello and Major Lazer songs retouched with his renowned electronic style. The unstoppable Hardwell arouse the audience madness playing lots of hits in a fast and vigorous way. He interacted every two minutes with the public transmitting his intensity and free every person body with his set.

Saturday

Louis The Child 16:00 to 17:00

The two American prodigies show their electronic complex and soft pop music. I was surprised by their capacity to blend songs and add above experimental sounds creating a tasty receipt. Their set was really fluid, they have an incredible potential and already really famous songs like "It´s Strange" and "Weekend". They offer an electronic future bass that reminds me of Flume in a smoother way.

Nghtmre 17:00 to 18:00

Nghtmre presented his extensive variety of sounds and styles; dubstep, trap and future bass to cause the audience mania. A hectic and volatile set that shocked the audience. He included a pair of Skrillex songs and combined them with his known penetrating noises and rapids rhythms. A great set for the hardstyle lovers.

DJ Snake 20:45 to 22:00

The French EDM and trap producer closed Perry´s stage with his famous and catchy songs. His Arabic sounds merge perfectly into the electronic, I really enjoyed dancing to this tones. The set timing was on point, he played lots of his last successful album songs, "Let Me Love You", "Ocho Cinco," Here Comes The Night", "Sahara" and "Propaganda", and also his new records. It was really easy and placid to bond with the rhythm, he wrapped us into a surreal world of electronic and lights. The audience turned insane with his magnificent concert that ended with fireworks.

The electronic music had two outstanding days and reassure that is making great strides every year.
